Known as “Jim Henson’s Cartoonist”, Gilchrist was chosen to create “Jim Henson’s Muppets” newspaper comic strip from 1981 to 1986. He was instrumental in other Henson projects such as Muppet Babies, Fraggle Rock, and more.

My name is Katy and I love telling stories through puppetry! I have been studying and practicing puppetry for over a decade, and have just absolutely fallen in love with the art form. It allows me to stretch my design and fabrication muscles, while being able to tap into my deep love for performing. There is something so special about bringing an object to life, and I am honored to share that gift as much as I can.
I currently work primarily as a puppeteer and director. I have really been enjoying my time on the stage, and also have a passion for teaching others. It has been my pleasure to serve as Puppet Director and Puppet Captain on many productions over the years. And for the right show I love to design and fabricate puppets.
I have puppets for rent for shows like Into the Woods, Wizard of Oz, Hand to God, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus, and others. Take a look around my website, feel free to reach out, and enjoy the puppets!

MY STORY:
Here's the story of my life (abridged version).
I was born in the small town of Hilton, NY #applecountry .
From there, I moved to Tucson, AZ. (cue the culture shock). It was there that I discovered my love for art and started exploring my creative side through painting, drawing, etc.
After two years in the desert, I moved to sunny Pearland, TX. and in 5th grade, it was mandatory that we take theater arts as an elective and I was dreading it, as I was a really, really shy child. Our final assignment for theater arts was to write an original skit and perform it in front of the class and invited guests. We decided to do a parody of The Late Show with David Letterman. It was during the "will it float" portion (we used a rubber duck... It did in fact float), that I had a crystalizing moment of clarity, an epiphany - if you will. Through the sounds of people laughing and the excited beating of my own heart, I heard a voice in my head say, "I have to do this for the rest of my life."
From 6th-12th grade, I did everything and anything I could that was related to preforming arts. Many ups and downs, but never questioning my quest to be an actor.
After high school, I was accepted at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA), in New York City (can you say "culture shock" again). I graduated 3 years later as a proud member of the 2014-2015 Academy Company, with some truly amazing people. In the years after college, I did a wide variety of acting gigs and would eventually become an usher at the beautiful Hudson theatre. Little did I know, that this job would change everything. You see the theatre company, Ambassador Theatre Group, who operates the Hudson theatre, was also in charge of another Broadway theatre called the Lyric. I was, again, fortunate enough to transfer over there for a while and be a part of the amazing front of house team that helped open Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Six months after starting at the Lyric, I was cast in the San Francisco production of HPCC as Scorpius Malfoy. After an incredible run in San Francisco, I have returned to New York City, ready for the next great adventure.
It's been nearly 20 years since that duck floated and I've never looked back. Simply put, I love what I do and I've been fortunate enough to pursue it as my career!
Keep your eyes on the horizon my friends. Our future is bright!
